My daughter and I went on the short break to Bruges to see if we would like to travel with Cunard in the future.
Check in was smooth and the cabin clean and well maintained, although complimentary water would have been nice.
Our first evening meal was at 8.30pm.
Sadly we were still queuing to enter the restaurant at 9.30pm.
Eventually we were shown a table at 9.40.
We were told that the lengthy wait was due to the first sitting being slow, but we counted 14 set up dining places around us.
It took until 10pm to receive our starter, as they were not allowed to serve it until our wine had arrived.
At this point, I will say that all the food on board, when we got it, was very good.
The itinerary was changed for arrival in Bruges on Friday not Saturday, so we had to cancel a walking tour we had booked.
For the Friday evening we had booked and pre-paid for the steak restaurant.
This was a far better experience with excellent food, attentive waiters and peaceful surroundings.
Sadly on checking my account the next day, we had been charged again for the steak meal which I had pre-paid.
A trip to Reception ensued, where a rather rude man said that he couldn’t help and we’d have to take it up with Head Office when we got home.
As I had a copy of what I’d pre-paid, we were not going to leave it there.
So, we told them to sort or we wouldn’t be moving and why should we sort when it was their problem.
Eventually, after holding up the queue for more than half an hour, it was sorted and we were told we’d have confirmation that day.
Well, the confirmation never came but it was on my statement on the last morning.
The sea day was uninspiring and the shops very specialised and expensive.
All in all not the experience you expect from a Cunard cruise, long or short.
My daughter was considering booking her honeymoon to Japan on Cunard, but that will not happen now, and I certainly won’t be cruising with Cunard any time soon, if ever.
