Cunard Reveals Queen Mary 2 Refit Plans for 2027

Cunard has revealed further details of its major Queen Mary 2 refit in 2027, with new accommodation, transformed wellness facilities and enhancements to some of the ocean liner’s most distinctive spaces.

The programme will retain the character that has made Queen Mary 2 such an icon of Transatlantic travel while introducing a series of contemporary updates. Alongside new Princess Grill Suites and Britannia staterooms, guests can look forward to a transformed Mareel Wellness & Beauty spa, upgraded planetarium, redesigned luxury boutiques, enhanced kennels and new outdoor deck space.

What’s Changing During the Queen Mary 2 Refit?

The latest plans confirm enhancements across accommodation, wellness, entertainment and outdoor spaces.

Changes announced so far include:

• 16 new Princess Grill Suites on Deck 13
• 15 new Britannia Inside staterooms across Decks 13, 9 and 6
• Refreshed Queens Grill and Princess Grill Suites
• Upgraded Britannia and Britannia Club staterooms
• Refreshed Queens Grill and Princess Grill restaurants
• A transformed Mareel Wellness & Beauty spa
• An upgraded Illuminations planetarium
• New outdoor deck space
• Redesigned luxury boutiques
• An enhanced kennel experience with greater capacity

New and Refreshed Grill Suites

Grill accommodation will be one of the major focuses of the Queen Mary 2 refit.

Cunard is adding 16 new Princess Grill Suites on Deck 13, while all existing Queens Grill and Princess Grill Suites will receive new bathrooms. Refreshed interiors will introduce updated furnishings, improved technology and dedicated wellness touches, while the bathrooms will feature a new spa-inspired look.

The Queens Grill and Princess Grill restaurants will also be refreshed as part of the wider enhancement to the Grill Suites experience.

Cunard has released the first renders of the redesigned accommodation, including new-look Queens Grill and Princess Grill Suites and their bathrooms. These give an early indication of a lighter, more contemporary design while retaining the refined feel associated with the Grill experience.

New Britannia Staterooms

Queen Mary 2 will also gain 15 new Britannia Inside staterooms across Decks 13, 9 and 6.

A selection of existing Britannia and Britannia Club staterooms will receive new soft furnishings, decorative details and redesigned bathrooms, providing a refreshed look across more of the ship’s accommodation.

Mareel Wellness & Beauty to Be Transformed

Cunard has confirmed that Queen Mary 2’s Mareel Wellness & Beauty spa will undergo a transformation as part of the refurbishment.

Full details of the new facilities have yet to be revealed, but the plans point towards an updated wellness and beauty offering, with more information expected ahead of the refit.

Illuminations Planetarium to Receive an Upgrade

One of Queen Mary 2’s most unusual features is also set for an upgrade.

Illuminations, home to the largest planetarium at sea, will receive new state-of-the-art technology designed to support a new programme of immersive entertainment.

More Outdoor Space

The refurbishment will also introduce new deck space where guests can relax outdoors and enjoy the sea views.

Traditional activities including deck games, paddle tennis, pickleball and shuffleboard will continue to feature, preserving some of the classic experiences closely associated with a voyage aboard Queen Mary 2.

Queen Mary 2’s Kennels Are Being Expanded

Queen Mary 2 remains unusual in offering dedicated kennels on selected Transatlantic Crossings, and these will receive their own significant upgrade.

The redesigned facilities will include increased kennel capacity, a refreshed owners’ lounge and expanded outdoor space where pets can exercise. New amenities will also be introduced, allowing more guests to travel across the Atlantic with their four-legged companions.
