We had our concerns 48 hours prior to boarding when we were informed of a delay of 90 minutes for embarkation to allow for
” enhanced cleaning”.
I then read on Facebook that there had been a previous outbreak of Norovirus on March 19th. The buffet restaurant was not self service, all food was served by staff (we were informed that this would be for 72 hours but in fact it continued for the whole 19 day cruise.
The glass house was closed as was all washing machines in the Laundry rooms. I believe the Library was closed too.
My husband became ill with Norovirus on day 4, I was instructed to isolate in the room with him and our food would be delivered by room service. The choice of food was very limited for me. We were released 48 hours after my Husbands symptoms stopped only for me to be taken ill 24 hours later. In all we missed 9 days of our cruise and could not go on 2 trips which we had booked( these were refunded).
The Captain did not make any announcements referring to the outbreak even as more and more people contracted it, evident by the amount of trays outside of cabins There was an instruction on the P and O information channel to wash hands and use hand sanitizer regularly , blaming the UK as seeing increased levels of gastrointestinal illness and that several guests reporting to the Medical Centre with this type of illness, implying it had been brought onto the ship by the guests.
There should have been a warning given to passengers prior to boarding that this illness was on this ship, I think a lot of staff were ill with it, especially as there were a lot of older passengers who became quite poorly.
