Emerald Princess

Overall, we enjoyed Emerald Princess on her trip to Norway.

The Medallion is a real boon, enabling easy access to the cabin without fumbling for a key, and also for ordering drinks and food wherever you are on the ship.

This worked well.

The cabin steward was excellent as were our two waiters in the Botticelli Dining Room (we arranged to have the same table throughout the voyage).

All staff in the bars were excellent and friendly, particularly in the Elite Lounge where we went in the evening before dinner.

The weather on the cruise was good for Norway and the port excursions we chose were generally good.

I would not recommend the port of Alta in the summer, I think this is better for viewing ther Northern Lights.

The only real highlight there is the modern cathedral, which you like or dislike.

The ATV trip at Honningsvag was good and the sightseeing in Trondheim with a tram ride was excellent.

The Briksdal Glacier was worth seeing too, along with some excellent cakes at the end!

On the ship, although the dining service was first class, the menus were a bit off the norm and food was sometimes just warm.

Overall, a bit disappointing.

The other major disappointment is that Princess Cruises don’t offer much in the way of daytime ‘enrichment’, concentrating instead on rather noisy quizzes and the like.

In fact it took us a few days to find a quiet spot where we could just read and have a drink, for this I recommend Adagio on deck 16 at the stern or Skywalkers Nightclub on deck 18 during the day.

On Deck 7 it was impossible to find a quiet spot.

There is more of an international flavour to the guests on board, especially American, Japanese and Chinese, all of whom can be rather pushy at times.

Another disappointment was very few people made much of an effort to dress for the three formal nights on board.
