I went on this cruise with trepidation as a solo traveller.
I had cruised many times previously with my deceased husband.
While enjoyed this cruise immensely, there were a couple of things which I didn’t like.
Iona is a well-appointed ship but too big for me and I felt that the entertainment was geared towards a much younger clientele.
It was aimed at parents with children aged from 16 to toddlers.
Other retired cruisers felt exactly the same as I did.
I was concerned about freedom dining but needn’t have because the MDR receptionist called me and two other solo travellers by name and was very accommodating.
I had a balcony on deck five and—— wouldn’t do that again.
Beautifully appointed and very quiet but:- 1:-I didn’t like being so near to the sea.
2:- I couldn’t manage the balcony door at all it was much too heavy for me.
Consequently I only went out onto the balcony on two occasions.
What a waste of a balcony cabin especially when as a solo cruiser I paid almost double the cost .
But excellent staff with lovely smiles and always helpful.
Enormous variety of well cooked, tasty food.
Lovely ports of call.
