We have been cruising for 10 years, but this was our first time with Fred Olsen.
We chose our first cruise to Norway because of good reviews and an easy drive to Newcastle – only about 105 miles from our West Yorkshire home.
The port experience was good, with easy car parking and speedy and efficient check-in.
Our cabin was ready as soon as we boarded, about 14.30.
Balmoral proved to be friendly, well maintained, and very clean.
Food was excellent throughout the various eateries, with ample opportunities to dine outside.
Buffet food and service were of the same high standards in the restaurants.
Entertainment was varied and of a good standard throughout.
Ballroom dancing was at best basic with a very small egg-shaped floor.
The cruise director, Simon Vickers, was superb and led his entertainment team with energy and enthusiasm.
The theatre is bigger than you would expect and is laid out in cabaret style, and provides an intimate setting for one of the best teams we have seen.
Norway and the fjords are awesome.
And the weather was kind to us.
Altogether, this was an excellent and memorable 7-day cruise.
